What is the "Fairness Doctrine" we are hearing so much about lately in the mainstream media, and how would enacting this doctrine affect us positively? The short answer is that this would in essence force talk radio stations to have equal air time for Liberal and Conservative Talk Shows. Remember this is specifically aimed at Conservative Talk Radio by taking popular money making stations and forcing them to give equal air time to others that the public hadn't to this point wanted to hear. Aren't we a democracy and don't we have the freedom to choose who we like and who we don't? If we didn't like Conservative Talk Radio, wouldn't the ratings and the marketplace dictate that? In fact it has and the numbers are astounding. As of the spring of 2007 of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top five commercial station 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming is conservative, and 9 percent is progressive. Sounds like the customers have spoken. Believe me radio is run by advertising which is supported by people who listen to the programs. If Conservative Radio was un-popular and being forced onto people the numbers would be much different. Free Market Enterprise has spoken once again.
